Location of Creuse within France
BY CAR: The A20 motorway runs south from Orleans towards Toulouse. Take exit 23 to get on to the RN145 heading east towards Guéret and Montluçon. After about 10km, you will come to an exit which is signed La Souterraine (do not take the first exit, for St Maurice). Take this and drop down to the roundabout, where you need to take the second exit, signed Fromental. Just a few metres further on, take a sharp left. Keep on this small road, which runs alongside the RN145. At the first junction, bear left and you will then come to a crossroads with some tall radio masts in front of you. Turn right here (at this point, you will be on the road D1 heading south towards Fursac) and after just 100 metres or so, turn right again towards the hamlet of L'Age aux Roux. When you arrive in the hamlet, do not follow the road round to the left but bear right and you will come to the house, which is the last one on the lane.
If you miss the turning off the RN145: Don't worry, you can also take the next exit, which is signed Fursac. Come to the top of the slip road and turn right then immediately right again, direction Fursac. Follow this road until you come to a croassroads with the radio masts on your left. Turn left here and then take the first right to L'Age aux Roux. Then see above.
BY AIR: Our closest airport is Limoges, which is served by Ryanair from Stansted, Liverpool and East Midlands and by Flybe from Southampton (also from Newcastle starting Spring 2007). From the airport, follow the signs to A20 motorway direction Chateauroux or Orleans. Then see above for directions.
BY RAIL: if you live in the south-east of England, the train is a good way to get here. The Eurostar will take you to Paris Gare du Nord. Transfer to Gare D'Austerlitz by metro and from there get a train to La Souterraine. Note that there is almost no public transport within Creuse, so you will need a car once you get here. These can be hired in La Souterraine - please let us know if you need help with this.
